The catalogues for their triennial series of exhibitions.  In February 2019, I published a book celebrating Ceramics Ireland’s 40th Anniversary – Ceramics Ireland – Celebrating makers and Community.

Ceramics Ireland

 Celebrating 40 years of Makers

and Community

In 1977 the Craft Potters Society of Ireland was founded by a group of enthusiastic makers, 40 years on in 2017 Ceramics Ireland, as the CPSI are now known, celebrated their 40th anniversary. During the course of that year three exhibitions were held: two showcased our membership and the third Touchstone had a broader reach. From functional vessels to sculptural objects, the work of the participating 158 makers was documented and features in this substantial publication Ceramics Ireland - Celebrating 40 years of Makers and Community.

This richly illustrated book celebrates makers and their diverse creative and innovative practice. Each maker’s page includes images, artist statement and technical information. The book also provides an overview of the development of this dynamic voluntary membership group through the years with chapters charting the evolution of the organisation, through exhibitions, workshops, the International Festival and the Ceramics Ireland magazine.

Ceramics Ireland have championed the power of working together for the greater good, coming together as a community of makers sharing knowledge, skills and understanding. ‘We are an impactful membership organisation that prioritises activation, education and promotion of our sector to guarantee the future of the ceramic landscape in Ireland while raising the international profile of Irish ceramics.’

‘Ceramics is a marker of time, as a material and artefact it conveys tales of cultures long past and as such acts as a barometer for a nations creative clay culture. Ceramics Ireland is a leading resource organisation for ceramic activity in Ireland. It has played a significant role in the national clay landscape for over 40 years. 2017 saw Ceramics Ireland celebrate 4 decades of activity in this field.’ Elaine Riordan Ceramics Ireland Chairperson.
